James Thurstan Waterworth founded Thurstan with a mission to create eclectic and original interiors true to the client brief and in keeping with their architecture and surroundings. Thurstan's work with private clients and the hospitality industry since launch has received key award nominations, including selection by House & Garden as one of their Top 100 Designers over the past few years.

The former European Design Director at Soho House, James worked on houses in Istanbul, Miami, Barcelona and London giving a strong emphasis to comfort, practicality and the origins and history of a building. His background and experience living and working in LA, New York, London, Hong Kong and Barcelona honed the Thurstan aesthetic and informs individual projects from the social and cultural to private residences. Creative Director Chelsea Nelson, a previous colleague at Soho House, brings a decade of experience in development in Europe and the Thurstan core team skills encompass Interior Design, Architecture and Product Design.

Thurstan's careful curation combines an expertise in design with a passion for sourcing antiques and the creation of bespoke furniture for projects and individuals. The 'Thurstan Collection' comprises authentic, one-of-a-kind pieces - from 17th century European to mid-century modern case pieces and interior accessories.

A varied portfolio of projects spans a country estate in Wiltshire, boutique hotels and developments across Europe, a hotel in Beijing, a series of new concept eateries in London, the refurbishment of a 17th Century Masseria in Puglia and a new build on one of the few remaining untouched Greek islands.
